How to download your bank transactions

Most banks let you save your recent transactions as a spreadsheet file from their website. Here's where to find it at the banks the forecast reads on its own.

Download the last 6 months if your bank allows it, and at least 3. That's enough to spot paychecks and monthly bills. Menu names may differ slightly.

The usual steps at any bank

  1. Sign in to your bank's website on a computer. Most banking apps can't save a file.
  2. Open the checking account you want to forecast.
  3. Look for a Download or Export option near your list of transactions.
  4. Choose CSV as the format. OFX or QFX (Quicken) files work too.
  5. Pick the last 6 months as the date range, then download.
